Overall the health costs of poorly regulated coal burning are $100 billion a year, and 14,000 Americans die annually as a consequence of unregulated pollution. Oil brings its own set of problems. Communities near refineries suffer the same kind of toxic air pollution as those near coal plants. But as we saw last summer, a huge part of the risk from oil comes from the wellhead — blowouts that like the one that devastated communities on the Gulf of Mexico are unusual for the U. Erik Santos to host "Star Power" new talent show

BANGALORE: The organised sector in India is set to create about 3,20,400 jobs between July and September 2010, reveals the latest results of Ma Foi Randstad Employment Trends Survey. There is optimism in the economic scenario across all sectors and services sector has created most of the new jobs in the country.
The survey was conducted across 13 industry segments that included eight
Indian cities. The top five sectors leading the boom are healthcare, hospitality, real estate & construction, IT & ITeS and education, training & consulting.
The top management and senior HR personnel of 650 companies were queried about their hiring intentions in present quarter vis-a-vis the last quarter and their views about the whole year.
The survey reveals that a total of 418,564 jobs were created between January and June 2010 with healthcare sector creating over 121,000 jobs followed by Hospitality sector creating close to 63,000 jobs.
New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai are the leading job generators creating 112,987 jobs for the period of January to September 2010. Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad follow closely creating 30,000 plus jobs during the same period.
Real estate & construction sector leads the pack with the highest growth in number of people employed by the sector; not surprisingly, the sector expects growth in average salary by about 4% followed by pharma (3.5%) and healthcare (3.4%) during the third quarter.
Amongst the cities, Bangalore expects increase in average salary by about 4.9% followed by Delhi (3.5%) and Pune (3.5%) during July-August-September period.
Estimated proportion of experienced workforce is the highest in the pharma sector, which is 87%. Healthcare sector is estimated to have the highest percentage of freshers at 38%. Kolkata has the highest estimated percentage of experienced workforce (82%) and New Delhi has the highest estimated percentage of freshers (35%), found the study.
Commenting on the Indian job market scenario, Ben Noteboom, CEO, Randstad Holding, “We see positive trends across many economies across the globe, such as the US, Germany, France, Asia Pacific and parts of Europe which are clearly growing. Books To Add To My Ever Growing Pile Of To-Read Books
I love books. If you haven't realised this by now, you must have just started reading this blog or you just don't know me very well. On top of loving books, I also hoard them. I have multiple plastic storage boxes full of books that are read and a few more boxes filled with books that I have yet to start reading. This, of course, doesn't stop me from wanting and adding more to the already growing pile.
With one of the local book stores having a sale (when is it never having a sale?), I might just drop by to check if they have the books that I want.
1. The Malay Archipelago
This book was actually introduced to me, in passing, during my Evolution & Phylogeny class when we were discussing about Darwin's theory of evolution. I've never been that much interested in studying evolution in depth, so it wasn't until this class that I discovered that it's actually a lot more interesting than I thought it was.
Anyway, the book was written by Alfred Russel Wallace who was a naturalist who lived in the South East Asian region back in the 1800s. Basically, the book is like a chronicle of his travels, his scientific research and his observations. I'm very interested in reading on how different the region must be like more than a century ago and if we can still find at least a tiny speck of what was seen back then if we travel through the region.
2. Blameless
The third book in The Parasol Protectorate series. I'm still currently reading Changeless, the book before this, but my friends are bugging me to quickly finish it so that I can get on to the third book, just so that we can squee about it together. The ladies I hang out with don't squee very often and it's usually over books and from the previous books, this series is very squee worthy.
On top of wanting to know what happens in the next book, I wonder what Madame Lefoux will be wearing in the next book. That lady has the most outrageous and yet amazing outfits in the book. Or at least I think so from the image I have of her in my head.
3. The Phoenix Transformed
This is the third book in The Enduring Flame trilogy. I've been waiting at least a year for this book to be out in paperback and as of yet, I have not seen it in the book stores. The story takes place a thousand years after the events of The Obsidian Trilogy, which is one of my most favourite trilogies by Mercedes Lackey.
There are dragons, mages and magic in this series. Unfortunately no unicorns, which I miss since the unicorns in The Obsidian Trilogy have such distinctive personalities that make you wish you had one as a friend, though you had to be chaste and celibate to even come close to one. Tough, huh?
I realised that I have not included a romance novel in a reading list for quite some time now. Truthfully, I've not actually found one that made me impatiently waiting to read it. Lately, it's been the fantasy and the science genres that has been grabbing my attention. Is this what it means to have a maturing taste in reading? Or not?

With The Economy Struggling, Why Haven't Equities Fallen Even Further?
The deterioration in the economy has been clear in recent months, but the equity markets have confounded many investors. Stocks are just 10.6% off their highs and have shown some remarkable resilience, particularly in the last few weeks. There’s a great tug-of-war going on underneath what appears like a potentially frightening macro picture. A closer look shows that what we’ve primarily seen is deterioration in the macro outlook and not so much in specific corporate outlooks. Despite the persistently weak economy, earnings aren’t falling out of bed. Without a sharp decline in earnings there is unlikely to be a sharp decline in the equity markets (outside of some exogenous event such as a sovereign default). The most distinct characteristic I can recall from the the 2007/2008 market downturn was the persistent deterioration in earnings. Like dominoes we saw the various industries go down one by one: housing, then banks, then consumer discretionary and on down the line. While the macro picture has deteriorated recently we haven’t seen the same sort of deterioration in earnings that we saw in 2007 and 2008. In a recent strategy note JP Morgan elaborated on the divergence between the macro outlook and the earnings outlook: “What matters for equities is earnings and not GDP growth. US GDP growth projections are being cut, but earnings projections have been little affected so far. Investors and analysts are hoping that, to the extent the soft patch in US GDP growth lasts for only a few quarters and does not spillover to the rest of the world, US companies will be able to protect their revenues and profits. Indeed, this is what happened during 2Q, when US companies were able to deliver strong top line and EPS growth even as US GDP grew at only a 1% pace. It is a prolonged soft patch that poses the greater threat for corporate earnings and equity markets as it raises the specter of deflation and profit margin contraction. Why is deflation bad for corporate profitability? When nominal interest rates are bounded at zero, a fall in expected inflation causes a rise in real interest rates and the cost of capital, hurting corporate profitability. In addition, nominal wage rigidities mean that deflation reduces output prices by more than input prices putting pressure on corporate profitability. Indeed, the Japanese experience of the 1990s provides an example of the erosion in corporate margins under a deflationary environment.” BlackRock’s Bob Doll also highlighted this in his latest strategy note: “To us, one of the more interesting features of the current economic and market landscape has been the continued resilience of the corporate sector in the midst of weak economic data. The growth in corporate profits and the ongoing decline in corporate credit spreads are forecasting economic strength. In fact, corporate profit margins as a percentage of GDP are near 40-year highs. During a normal economic cycle, such levels would encourage companies to spend more on capital expenditures and/or ramp up hiring plans, but most companies have remained reluctant to reduce their cash levels. We have seen some increases in capital spending, but a lower amount than would normally be expected given current profits, and, of course, private sector hiring has remained anemic. Some of this reluctance to spend can be attributed to uncertainty surrounding potential legislative and regulatory changes coming out of Washington, but we believe that we are at a point where companies will need to either accept slower growth levels or begin to put more of their capital to work.” The ability of US corporations to maintain their bottom lines in the last two years has been remarkable. But this strength in earnings will not persist without a rebound in revenues. As I recently highlighted analysts have become increasingly optimistic about the rebound in corporate profits, however, the sustainability of a margin based recovery is limited without organic revenue growth. My analysis leads me to believe that the macro outlook will remain weak despite recent signs of strength in some reports. Corporations tend to be reactive to the macro outlook which likely means they will keep their cost controls tight and maintain a defensive posture. At the end of the chain is the analysts, who tend to be reactive to what corporations tell them. The best way to visualize this is with the following image. The macro economy tends to be the leading factor in corporate decisions. This is why we will often see the business cycle peak at the point of rampant exuberance and mass layoffs at the trough in the cycle. Corporations are not always out in front of the business cycle and in fact are usually reactive to the macro environment. When times are good they spend. When times are really good they spend excessively. The opposite goes for the downside. Analysts are the ultimate lagging factor in the equation. A close study of analyst’s expectations will reveal very close ties to what corporations actually tell them. This generally comes via the form of press releases (when Apple says they’ll earn $1 next quarter 75% of the analyst estimates are near $1 even though Apple ALWAYS beats), but can also come via the form of direct communication with analysts. Corporations understand that the estimates matter a great deal to their stock price performance so they keep communications tight. A growing economy is the perfect environment for wise executives who literally toy with the analysts by continually under promising and overdelivering. The macro picture has deteriorated in recent months, but it has not collapsed. This has reduced the margin for error in terms of corporate earnings. Toying with the analysts isn’t as easy as it was 6 months ago. Intel and Cisco’s warnings a few weeks ago were likely previews of what will become a trend in the coming two months. If the macro picture continues to deteriorate (which I think there is a fairly high probability of) we will slowly see a deterioration in corporate earnings and a lagging effect at the analyst level. But with a slowly deteriorating macro picture this won’t unravel overnight. Deterioration at the macro level is clear, though we are likely to see it play itself out over the course of several quarters. If the macro environment deteriorates more than I presume the earnings picture will have a snowball effect. And of course, the same can be said of a positive macro surprise (with markets reacting positively). My 1991 Honda Accord is Gone!
need a car. Does anyone have an extra car sitting around??? Anybody own a car dealership???
On Friday night my car was stolen. I arrived home from San Diego. Parked outside the house. Went in. Hung out with Melqui for an hour before going to dinner and when we went outside an hour later the car was gone.
It happened on Friday but I'm only talking about it today cause I've literally been in shock for the last two days. Not angry shock or sad shock...just...I just can't believe it's gone. It was stolen once before in SF but I got it back.
Honestly, the car was being destroyed in Tijuana. The streets here are horrible. The potholes are deep like craters. I've seen cars get stuck in Tijuana potholes. The drivers in Mexico are not good. They ignore traffic signals and signs. You never know if you're in a one-lane, two-lane, or three-lane road. It's a free-for-all. No one has insurance.
You park, go in a store, come out and there's a huge dent in your side.
A month ago someone hit Melqui while he was parked.
I could go on and on. This car would not have survived another year in Mexico. It's sad, but true.
And I'm grateful I got as much as I did out of it. 20 years and 350,000 miles. It was in very good condition before coming to Mexico. The mechanics couldn't believe how many miles it had and some said they thought I would get to 500,000 miles and more. Caryn Horwitz, my long term friend, biz partner, ex-wife, bought the car 20 years ago, brand new. Who would've thought 20 years later I'd still be driving it.
But it's gone and I'm sure it's in a million pieces by now.
The hardest part is that I loved that car. People would ask if I wanted a new car and truthfully, I didn't. I wanted that car to keep running perfectly.
I travelled all over the country in that car. Had countless crazy adventures. I feel like I've lost my diary. Or a scrapbook. I feel like I've lost a friend. One
So now, here I am in Mexico, with no car. Melqui walked to work today. Yesterday, Melqui and I rode on a bus that was so rundown it was comical. They call them Calafia's. I'll take a photo an post it on the blog or Facebook.
I need to find a very tough, strong truck, van or suv, I think. I hope to start touring again and traveling, and it would be great to have something with storage. I don't know. My favorite car I ever rode in, besides my Honda, were the those 1970 vans with swivel seats, carpeting and tables...lol...like moving hotel rooms...my friend Cameron Parsons had one and I loved it.
So I don't know what I'm gonna do. But that's the news.

Maserati GranTurismo Pulled Over with Lindsay Lohan Behind the Wheel
Lindsay Lohan who was just released from drug rehab, was pulled over by police for running a stop sign in Los Angeles by the LAPD. Apparently Lohan was on her way to one of her old party spots, the Chateau Marmont Hotel, and ran a stop sign while trying to get away from possible paparazzi. The police officer let her go with only a warning, and Lohan and her passenger were off to the hotel in no time. They stayed at the hotel until approximately 1 AM.
The Maserati GranTurismo that she was driving is a $150,000 car with 433 horsepower,and a look to die for. Lohan just recently finished serving 2 weeks in jail for violating her probation. The 24 year old actress has to give random drug tests now, which is a condition of her release from rehab last week. She has had a history of late night partying, drug abuse, and run-ins with the law. The fact that she is continuing to go out and party at the same hot spots as she was before her rehab began, doesn’t suggest that she is trying to change her ways, but who knows.

Today homegirl, Melanie Oudin, started her campaign in great style beating opponent Olga Savchuk in their first-round match, 6-3, 6-0. Oudin, from Marietta, Ga. ranked 44th certainly made it look easy, winning 79% of her first-serve points and 86% of her second-serve points. If she felt the pressure she sure didn’t show it.
Omaha Nighthawks sign Clarett
Former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett signed a contract today with the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League.
"I am humbled by the opportunity the Omaha Nighthawks have given me and will dedicate myself on and off the field to prove that I can be a valuable member of the team and the Omaha community," Clarett said in a statement. "I am committed to working hard to earn the right for a second chance in football and more importantly in life."
Clarett, 26, has not played football since being released by the Denver Broncos during training camp in 2005. He was arrested on Jan. 1, 2006 after robbing a couple at gunpoint outside a Downtown bar and again later that year while wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying four guns in his car.
He pleaded guilty in September 2006 to aggravated robbery and carrying a concealed weapon. He was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison but was granted early release after 3 1/2 years.
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge David W. Fais last week granted a request by Clarett to travel to Nebraska for a tryout. Clarett worked out for the team Sunday.
The Nighthawks said in a release that Clarett would participate in his first team practice today and will be available to talk to media on Wednesday following the team's morning practice session.
"The team and I are excited to have Maurice Clarett join the Nighthawks family," Nighthawks coach Jeff Jagodzinski said in a statement. "He will be treated just like every other player on the roster and will be expected to perform to the best of his abilities both on and off the field."
UFL Commissioner Michael Huygue added, "I met with Maurice Clarett today and additionally reviewed all of the reports surrounding his circumstances. I support allowing his return to football and believe he will make the most of this opportunity."
Burning Man 2010 Kicks off Today in Black Rock City, Nevada
Burning Man 2010 is running from today, August 30th until September 6th. It will take place in Black Rock City, Nevada just as it does every other year. The annual event is expected to be extremely entertaining this year. For those of you are are considering attending the event but don’t know exactly what it is, it an art and dance festival that began back in 1986 by Larry Harvey and Jerry James, along with a few friends they had met on Baker Beach, San Francisco. They burned a giant wooden man and a wooden dog . The man measured approximately 2.7 meters. The event moved to Black Rock City, Nevada in 1990 and has been there every year since, with the exception of 1997. It is not an event that can simply be defined by a few words. It’s a huge get-together where people wear what they want (including nothing at all), and do what they want. Burning Man 2010 is expecting over 50,000 people, and tickets will run you at least $210.00. Some go up as high as $360.00. You can expect to see crazy looking costumes, performance art, dancing, and a 40 foot effigy. The event has been attracting a lot of drug use lately, so city officials will have a vast number of undercover police officers roaming around. “I don’t want my guys to be party poopers, but we have a job to do. They’re not bad people, but they like to use drugs,” said Mark Pirtle, who is in charge of the Bureau of Land Management.

Paris Hilton was arrested on Friday night for cocaine possession (in Las Vegas, Nevada). In addition to cocaine, she also had other items, including the prescription medication albuterol, a police report indicates.
What is albuterol?
Albuterol is a prescription medicine used to treat asthma. Specifically, it is used for the relief of bronchospasm (bronchial tube spasm) in conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Albuterol is frequently distributed in inhalers, but also in tablet or liquid form. In the case of Hilton, the albuterol was in the form of a broken tablet.
According to the police report, Hilton said the person did not belong to her. Rather, it belonged to a friend. On the other hand, Hilton claimed ownership of the broken Albuterol pill, Zig Zag wrappers commonly used to wrap marijuana joints, $1,300 in cash and credit cards.
The police report said Hilton, 29, asked to use a bathroom after police stopped the Cadillac Escalade she was in. The car was stopped because police detected a "strong odor of marijuana" from an open window.
"While we were waiting for the female officer to arrive, Hilton said she needed to put some lip balm on, and I handed her the purse from the table. As she began to open it, I saw a small bindle of what I believed to be cocaine in a clear baggy begin to fall from the purse into my hand."
Evidently the reason she needed to go to the bathroom not to put lip balm on, but to flush something, and not bodily waste, either.
The last time Paris Hilton faced down the law, upon hearing a sentence of 45 days in jail, Hilton shouted, "It's not right!" and started screaming for her mother. What was not right, in her opinion, was that she was not above the law due to her riches. Many celebrities act as such.
Hurricane Earl path may cross Long Island, Cape Cod before Labor Day
The latest National Weather Service projection has moved the track of the storm, now a Category 4 hurricane, farther west. If Earl stays on that path, it could threaten the eastern US, especially Long Island and parts of New England, as early as Thursday night or Friday.
Weather service officials, however, say, “Nothing is etched in stone.”

“The margin of error is still 200 to 300 miles,” says Dennis Feltgen, a spokesman for the National Hurricane Center in Miami. “But everyone needs to be paying attention to this.”
Even if the storm does not hit the coast, forecasters are certain it will cause rough surf that could prevent thousands of residents and vacationers in the Northeast from enjoying a dip in the ocean this Labor Day weekend.
“The rip currents are going to continue through the first half of the weekend,” warns Henry Margusity, a senior meteorologist at AccuWeather.com in State College, Pa.
Mr. Margusity says there is still a lot of uncertainty about the exact track of the storm. At the moment, he suspects that it will mainly remain offshore, resulting in strong gusty tropical-force winds on eastern Long Island and rain in New York City. The storm would then track northeast and hit Cape Cod for several hours before heading for Maine and Canada’s Maritime Provinces.
“I think on Long Island it will just look like a bad nor’easter storm, and on the cape there could be some hurricane-force winds,” says Margusity.
If the storm were to move even farther west, it could follow Interstate 95 up the coast. This could cause major damage as storm surge waters get pushed up the Hudson River and high winds hit Long Island.
“I could see the eye cutting over eastern Long Island and then Boston,” says Margusity.
What will determine the track of the storm is a powerful low-pressure zone that is currently moving through the Midwest, bringing rain and thunderstorms.
“Hurricanes like to back into these lows,” says Margusity. The low-pressure zone may also cause the storm to get sucked to the Northeast, depending on the timing.
Emergency officials in New York say they have begun conversations with county officials about storm preparedness.
“We have our plans in place,” says Dennis Michalski, director of Public Information for the New York State Division of Homeland Security.
New York is better prepared than it has been in the past because it has an evacuation plan, says Nicholas Coch, a professor at City University of New York and an expert on preparedness.

Inside Glenn Beck's 'Restoring Honor' rally
Rachel and Ray Thompson, both 29, drove with their four kids from Indiana. Both are fans of Glenn Beck and criticized President Obama for fanning the divisions in this nation.
"There are a lot of divisive issues in this country that need to be addressed in the way Dr. King addressed them and [Obama] has failed to do that," Ray Thompson, an electrician, said. "From a multi-racial family, I say shame on him." (Ray is white; Rachel is African American.)
"He does have an awesome power to do something about it, but he is not. He is just sitting back," said Rachel, a massage therapist. Neither was troubled by the timing of the rally -- on the anniversary of King's "I Have a Dream" speech. They said the speech King's niece Alveda King gave was the most uplifting of the day.

A counter-protester, Ben Thielen, 32, a District public-policy worker, caused a stir with a sign that said, "It's because of the 1st Amendment that Glenn Beck can spew his filth on the steps."
People walking by yelled at him "Who do you work for?" and "Nice hate speech!"
Then Thielen engaged in a long debate with another federal employee, age 47, who would give his name only as David, about whether an Islamic center should be built near Ground Zero -- David was against it, Thielen for it.
"What a waste of sperm!" David said when he walked away in disgust. Then a gray-haired woman accosted Thielen and tried to rip the placard out of his hand, screaming, "No signs! No signs!" This was a reference to the event's organizers' hope that political signs would not be displayed, although "Don't Tread on Me" flags are being waved at the event.
"She just came up to me and said 'No signs!' and clawed me like a wild animal," Thielen said, showing off red marks on his arms.

D.C. Fire and EMS spokesman Pete Piringer said rescuers have evaluated several dozen people on the Mall for conditions including bee stings, twisted ankles and heat-related issues, including several asthmatics and diabetics.
Several people were transported to the hospital, but none had conditions considered serious or life-threatening, Piringer said.

In the rear of the rally, hundreds sprawled in the shade of shadow cast by the Washington Monument and a nearby tree.
Scott Hackney was under the tree with his wife, four kids and his in-laws. They drove 24 hours nonstop from their home in Nocona, Tex., after hearing about the assembly on Glenn Beck's television show. Hackney, 37, a construction worker, said the biggest crowd he'd been in before was at a football game.
"We just wanted to be part of this," he said. "Just to be among a group of people expressing patriotism and a return to traditional values. I can't even hear anything. But that's okay. Just to be here sends an important message: that the backbone of the country is the family. Messing with the definition of family is dangerous. Strong families make a strong country."

On the 47th anniversary of her uncle's historic "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, politician and activist Alveda King has joined conservative commentator Glenn Beck at the same spot to bring people together in paying tribute to America's soldiers and "restoring honor" to America Glenn Beck's rally at the Lincoln Memorial causes controversy. King, the niece of civil rights activist Martin Luther King, Jr. and daughter of his brother activist A. D. King, is currently the director of African-American outreach at the pro-life group Priests for Life and has recently stepped into the spotlight after several appearances on Beck's radio program.

Networks take different paths in covering Glenn Beck 'Restoring Honor' rally
Fox News, MSNBC and CNN all say they will treat Beck's rally in front of the Lincoln Memorial like any other newsworthy event. All three networks have assigned reporters and camera crews to monitor speeches by Beck, former Alaska governor Sarah Palin (R) and other dignitaries in what is being billed as a "nonpolitical" rally. Beck has drawn criticism for scheduling on the same date and in the same location as Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech, although he has said the timing is accidental. But in the days leading up to the rally, the three networks have looked at the same story very differently. One important factor may be that Beck is a popular Fox News host, and that the rally's star attraction, Palin, happens to be a Fox News contributor. Over the past month, CNN has mentioned Beck's connection to Fox News and the rally only once as of Friday evening. On the eve of the rally Friday night, CNN aired an interview of Al Sharpton by talk-show host John King in which Sharpton criticized Beck for saying he's "reclaiming the civil rights movement." On the same day as Beck's event, Sharpton has organized another rally in Washington to honor King. MSNBC has made numerous references to Beck and to Fox, though usually in disparaging fashion. One host, Cenk Uygur, while substituting for Ed Schultz, called the rally "ridiculous" and an "ego trip" and branded Beck "a bad guy." MSNBC host Keith Olbermann has been particularly aggressive, asking one guest on Thursday, "Are we expecting to see [Beck] part the Reflecting Pool?" Fox News says that it has no official connection to the demonstration, explaining that Beck has organized it separately from his duties as a weekday host. Still, the network's tone has been much more friendly when it comes to the rally. In addition to dozens of mentions of it on his own show, Beck has appeared on "Fox and Friends," the network's morning program, and on Bill O'Reilly's evening program to discuss it. "Fox and Friends" directed viewers to Beck's Web site. The rally's organizers -- the Beck-affiliated 9-12 Project and Mercury Radio Arts -- have told the National Park Service in their permit application that they expect 300,000 people to attend. That figure would place it among the largest demonstrations in the Mall's history, although some have doubted that the rally will draw anything close to it. if None of the cable networks would say on Friday how much time they will devote to the Beck and Sharpton rallies, or how they will describe Beck's and Palin's affiliation with Fox. Fox News says it won't pre-empt its regular two-hour bloc of business news programs on Saturday morning for coverage, although Michael Clemente, Fox's senior vice president of news editorial, left open the possibility of giving some coverage to the Beck rally during brief news "breaks" during the morning. Beck and Palin are scheduled to speak between 10 and noon. "We're treating it like so many events that happen on the Mall and draw a big crowd," he said, comparing it to anti-abortion marches and the Million Man March. He added, "It will be judged on the merits, by what people say, how many people are there and by how the crowd reacts to what's said." MSNBC spokesman Jeremy Gaines said his network will have reporters doing live hourly reports from both rallies during the morning. He declined to say whether Beck's employment on Fox News would be mentioned. CNN spokeswoman Edie Emery said her network will cover both rallies "like we'd cover any other political news event," but also would not comment on how its reporters will refer to Beck and Fox. The "Restoring Honor" rally is described by its organizers as a celebration of "our heroes, our heritage and our future" that "pays tribute to America's service personnel and other upstanding citizens who embody our nation's founding principles of integrity, truth and honor," according to its Web site. The event will feature a "Lincoln Memorial Re-dedication Ceremony." In addition to Beck and Palin, speakers include baseball superstar Albert Pujols and St. Louis Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa. When Beck announced the event last fall on Fox News and his syndicated radio program, he promised to unveil "The Plan," a 100-year outline designed to "save the country." But the focus of the event quickly changed, with Beck opting for an event that would raise money for a Tampa-based group called the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, a philanthropy that assists the families of fallen or injured special-forces personnel.
High School Football Rankings have Trinity (Texas) Tops in the Nation
Pre-season High School football rankings have Trinity High School of Euless, Texas ranked No. 1 overall following a 14-2 campaign a year ago. Each of the first three teams in the rankings are from either Texas or Florida, two national football hotbeds.Following Trinity is No. 2 Miami Central of Miami, Florida, and No. 3 Abilene from Abilene, Texas, according to the USA Today poll. Seven teams out of the 25 are from either Texas or Florida, including six in the top nine.Of Trinity, which pulled down the top ranking, USA Today notes the team started slowly a year ago but finished with 13 consecutive wins en route to their third 5A-I state championship in the last five years.Florida and Texas often dominate these sorts of lists, but the fact of the matter is nothing is a less exact science than ranking high school football teams across the entire nation. The sheer number of schools in all corners of the country makes it a nearly impossible task.So, yes, Trinity is likely one of the best teams in the nation. But can anyone unequivocally say it is the top team in all the land? No way. There's just no possible way that every team in the country can be accounted for.Of course, the idea of a pre-season poll isn't to predict the finish but rather to establish some sort of hierarchy. It could be that experts believe the same at the end of the season.Of course, national high school polls are good for bulletin boards and little else. Each team is chasing a state championship in its respective locale and isn't particularly worried about national rankings, since there is no national championship showdown.So take the rankings for what they are: An approximation of who some of the most talented teams in the country may be.
Nicki Minaj and Drake Married Announced On Twitter
Nicki Minaj and Drake got married. At least thats what they are telling the world via their twitter page. It all started when Nicki Minaj challenged Drake's manhood by tweeting "U scurred? @drakkardnoir u ready to make the announcement or wha?"
My initial thoughts were more along the line of 'What exactly would that announcement be? Maybe Drake would tell the world they'd be dropping a new song a new song? But MARRIAGE? Really?
Drake replied by tweeting "@nickiminaj Baby I am never scared. PROUD is more the word I would use."
Followed by "Please refer to @nickiminaj as Mrs. Aubrey Drake Graham and dont stare at her too long. She's finally mine. :)"
Nicki Minaj cosigned the whole thing by replying "Yes, its true. Drake and I tied the knot."
